Yu-Gi-Oh Fake Metal Dragon
My son gets a couterfeit Metal Dragon card called "Mechanical Dragon", now I want to find the Thurdr Firing Dradon so we can fuse it.
Those eyes on the top of every page are from a film SLR picture I took of my son when he was around three months old. That was many years ago.
Now he's seven and we've gone through a number of phases, including Thomas the Tank Engine and dinosaurs. Now, the two big ones are Pokemon and Yugioh. The other day, he showed me two Yu-Gi-Oh cards he got in a trade with another seven-year-old. One, was an obvious fake:

I did some searching to see if I could find out anything about it. I found nothing on this card but did find other mentions of fake cards, including an article from 2005 mentioning the seizing of $3 million in fake Yu-Gi-Oh cards. I also found where Kathryn Cramer had run across fake Yu-Gi-Oh cards in her son's collection a year ago and provided pictures. One of her pictures is similar in appearance to mine, except that my son's Mechanical Dragon doesn't have the small hologram in the lower right. I will say that the entire card does have a starburst grid of hologram over the entire thing.
My son has only recently gotten into Yugioh and we've only seen the Yugioh cards produced within the last few years. I had originally assumed that this is what a fusion card used to look like, until I looked at the text and realized he had gotten a fake Yugioh card. One of the comments on the Kathryn Cramer site mentions that there are people who collect fakes. I have to say that I find that idea oddly appealing, and I'd really like to find a "Thurdr Firing Dradon" card so that I could fuse into Mechanical Dragon.
Description (so someone else googling this card can find it):
Card stock is slightly thicker than cards we have purchased in the store. Height is identical to purchased cards, but width is a few millimeters more than purchased card. Entire card has hologram overlay of starburst patterns in a grid. (You can see part of one in upper left of image above.) Starburst grid has larger starburst pattern, with smaller starburst pattern filling in space between 4 larger starbursts. I should mention that the quality of the artwork is better than the photo suggests. There's some minor moire effect because of resizing the image.
Name: Mechanical Dragon (Wind)
6 stars (red in color)
Number 406
Description: [MACHINE.COMBINATION] Steel giant god Statue + Thurdr Firing Dradon
ATK/1850 DEF/1700
Update:
I had posted a thread on yugiohforums.com asking about this. One of the moderator's Mr. Rice-A-Roni responded with a picture of the genuine card. Some really bad translation:
Name: Metal Dragon vs. Mechanical Dragon
Description: [MACHINE/FUSION] vs. [MACHINE.COMBINATION]
"Steel Ogre Grotto #1" + "Lesser Dragon"
vs.
"Steel giant god Statue + Thurdr Firing Dradon"
I found the real card on sale on E-Bay for $0.99. Hard to believe this is even worth counterfeiting.
If anyone e-mails more info, I'll add it.
